AWSSDE InternMay 2014 - Aug 2014Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Unified the logging system: designed a single common schema for every team's log messages, convinced the teams to adopt it, and consolidated their custom loggers under one shared framework.
Built a log tracer on that framework that traced API calls end to end, pinpointing where in the flow a request failed and what the failure was.
Sped up the logging system 15% for 8M+ customers.

Amazon Alexa

Senior Software Engineer, AlexaApr 2018 - Feb 2021AmazonSeattle, WAPromoted from L5 to L6

Managed eight engineers; owned performance reviews, hiring, 1:1s, and promotion recommendations. Mentored half the team to promotion; selected for Amazon's Mentorship and Leadership Development Program.
Designed a GraphQL aggregation and orchestration platform that saved $40M annually, combining an annotation-driven rule engine, batched downstream results, common-query prefetching, and cache keys matched to each skill’s semantics.
Mentored half the team from entry level to promotion, earning selection for Amazon's Mentorship and Leadership Development Program.
Collapsed partner onboarding from two weeks to 15 minutes with a self-service rapid-deployment platform.
Owned operational excellence, driving the weekly issue count from 40 to 10 and re-engineering the new-user registration flow to cut peak-holiday customer issues tenfold.
Led capacity planning for Prime Day and Black Friday, forecasting hardware demand and winning leadership's commitment to expand the fleet ahead of peak.
Improved end-to-end ASR and routing accuracy 40%, measured before and after changes to the Alexa Orchestration Engine Router. Combined skill-aware prefetching, early request processing, and downstream context fed back into speech recognition and hypothesis selection.
Mapped compound spoken requests to multiple skills and queries, preserved their associations, and fed recurring intent relationships back into recognition. Moved skill-specific logic closer to ASR through FreeMarker templates, Python scripts, and lightweight Lambda functions.
He is usually the first person in the team to step forward to take up any challenge. He is technically very strong and always puts extra effort to get things moving. Many times I felt comfortable discussing problems and solutions with him.

Apple

Principal Software Engineer · Team Lead since 2022Feb 2021 - Present

Manage eight engineers, five of them senior, and seven vendors. Own performance reviews and conversations, ratings and calibration input, and compensation recommendations; lead hiring and mentor engineers toward promotion.
Lead architecture, AI/ML engineering, and delivery for Apple’s media intelligence platform, integrating 15+ sources to support search, recommendations, and discovery reaching 100M+ users.
Coached a senior engineer into independent load-testing and performance ownership across 1M-100M-message workloads through prototype-driven decisions and incremental delivery.
That coaching path also built stakeholder alignment around migration performance.
Built Crucible, an agent engineering framework for operational diagnosis and end-to-end testing, with Model Context Protocol tools, multiagent review, model-based action checks, and executable acceptance rules. QA, Ops, and partner teams extended it into cross-service tracing and end-to-end tests.
Used in daily operations and adopted by QA, Operations, and upstream/downstream teams.
Led the Apple Music Credits launch across a 15-engineer, four-office program, delivering real-time credits curation for millions of tracks. Built graph and curation infrastructure supporting Apple Music Credits and Apple Music Classical.
Drove the production migration from Spark batch processing to Flink, Kafka, and Cassandra streaming, reducing average processing time from approximately 60 hours to one minute. Built the end-to-end curation pipeline for partial and complete edits to entities, relationships, and properties.
Raised data quality 40% by leading supervised ML entity resolution. Defined candidate generation, features, labels, evaluation, and human overrides with ML engineers; integrated classifiers, corrected artist identities, and transferred ongoing ownership.
The classifiers included logistic regression, random forests, and gradient-boosted trees, with canonical identity integration.
Established design-review and CI/CD standards that increased team velocity 30% and reduced production incidents 45%. Own graph query services, the partner client library, and shared Protobuf contracts adopted across the platform.
Architected and delivered GraphRAG evaluation and correction for Gemini and internal foundation models across music, books, and podcasts: graph-grounded fact checking, structured error reports and diagnostic hypotheses fed into subsequent queries, and separate checks for graph contradictions.
The workflow verifies generated entities and relationships against canonical facts and identifies precise discrepancies.
Direct senior and junior engineers delivering ML-generated media tags and awards metadata; designed versioned predictions, persistent human overrides, and client integrations to preserve editorial decisions through model updates.
I own the architecture and hands-on engineering, including difficult candidate matching and canonical entity generation.
Secured agreement from Operations, PMs, and client teams to sequence Sticky Credits behind an underway streaming migration, then delivered the production port in one sprint, consolidating duplicated batch, real-time, and curation logic into one flow.
Led architecture and cross-functional delivery of Apple’s media knowledge graph, the canonical model unifying 15+ sources to power search, recommendations, and discovery for over 100 million users.
Led an eight-engineer team at Apple across Seattle, London, and partner sites in Europe and Latin America.
Led the four-office global launch of Apple Music Credits (Cupertino, Seattle, London, Singapore), coordinating a 15-engineer cross-functional program to deliver real-time credits curation for millions of tracks.
Sairam consistently collaborated with various members of the team to deliver on some of the key projects from the team. It’s been a great year for Trinity, and Sairam had a key role to play in its success.
Apple manager review · 2022
Sairam has been instrumental in numerous key projects within the team. His dedication and effective problem-solving received commendations from various partner teams for staying on top of every necessary fix and providing support to cross-functional teams. This year has been phenomenal for Sairam and the team.
Apple manager review · 2023
Sairam made key contributions to the Nightwatch effort, leading the design of the genre work and working with stakeholders to understand the value and sign off on the design. These designs then translated into tasks for other team members, further showing the quality of the design he produced.
Apple manager review · 2024
A trend across all of Sairam’s work is his focus on always making quality-of-life improvements to whatever system he is working on. His contributions have saved everyone on the team time, every day. There are countless other examples, and they are invaluable to the team continuing to grow.
Sairam has established himself as Trinity’s expert on our curation infrastructure. He is a valuable team player, always willing to help others and step in to explain a new concept, pair program, or debug a tricky problem. Team members all know they can count on Sairam to provide high quality code reviews that encourage the whole team to write better Scala code.
Apple manager review · 2025
As Issue Response Lead, Sairam takes ownership of both maintenance of the production systems and the ongoing releases, and communicates with the team when issues are ongoing. He also served as an important mentor to an engineer on the Data Products team, helping her ramp up effectively on this complex system.
Sairam has a deep commitment to his work; if there is something that needs to be completed, he acts on it immediately. As such, over time, I and others in our team rely on him for this response.

That rapid response to challenges is combined with a relatively rare combination of both solid technical ability and a sense of ownership over the issues he addresses. He learns the context surrounding a problem rapidly, he can accelerate into new domains quickly and collaborate well with other teams when a solution requires input from various areas of expertise.
He continues to provide support to those around him, whether by removing obstacles for colleagues, expanding on his own responsibilities or providing a consistent source of calmness during stressful periods.
As a result, Sairam will make a tangible impact on any engineering organization.
